I appreciate your point Dr Stuart. I completely agree with you that understanding team members and enabling their growth is a manager's responsibility.

I also agree that everyone on the team should make an effort to better understand others.

However, we also need to realize our role in owning our growth at work.

It's not about being inauthentic or playing games to show your value. It's doing the work and putting in a little bit of effort to increase its impact (for example: by recognizing how it can be useful to others).

If your manager is not recognizing your contributions, I suggest speaking to them and trying to understand how you both can work together to make it possible.
