One thing I have noticed that a lot of high performing, fast moving managers want others to match their speed and aspirations.
However, they fail to realise that different people have different aspirations. Not everyone is out to climb the corporate ladder. Also, at different point in their lives people have different priorities too.
It's important to understand what each individual wants from their job. There's nothing wrong with simply doing good work and continuing to do that.
Motivating someone requires first understanding what is it that they want and then align work priorities accordingly. This does not mean you let bad performance slip through, it just means that you need to be clear on what you are expecting and whether that aligns with an individuals personal goals.
